Don't save your breast milk on refrigerator

This is a great article I read from Nutritional Neuroscience Journal, the article is about the levels of the breast milk components can be change every day, depending of the baby needs, for example, how this milk could help newborn babies to sleep. For moms who feeding their baby breast milk directly, this article is not really useful, but for moms who working and need to expressing their breast milk and save it in refrigerator and feed it to their baby the day after.

Although the research only studying on the component of breast milk that contributed to baby's sleep regulation like nucleotides, I think this research can open our mind that maybe other nutrition component also change based on the baby needs.

"The milk, collected from 30 women living in Extremadura, was expressed over a 24-hour period, with six to eight daily samples. The highest nucleotide concentrations were found in the nighttime samples (8pm to 8am).

"This made us realise that milk induces sleep in babies", Cristina L. Sánchez, lead author of the article and a researcher at the Chrononutrition Laboratory at the University of Extremadura, tells SINC."

Since the study only reporting about the different level of the breast milk component at 24 hours regarding to help baby to sleep, I think I have the idea how to use expressed breast milk for working moms:

Mother can give the expressed breast milk exactly at the same time at the other day. This is mean if moms expressing the breast milk at 9.00 PM this day, next day mom must give it to the baby at the same time 9.00 PM too.

I know this method has no proof; this is just the idea poping up in my mind when reading the article...

How to save money for the holiday shopping season

Parents always want to celebrate holidays with their entire family members, having great dinner and giving their best present to their beloved one. This celebration needs more attention especially for family that have low budget during holiday.

Here are some tips to save your holiday budget;

First is making a budget plan about detail expenses during holiday, and stick tight with the budget. They must expecting the rising expenses during holidays, such as considering rise in heating costs an other basic necessities such as groceries, best presents and great food during holiday.

To save money, you can do holiday shopping early, one or two month before holiday. Usually the price is still normal and you don't have to face huge crowds and inflated prices. You still have your time spending to pick up your best but cheap presents, you can do that at October and November.

The last way to save your holidays when you have fewer budgets is using payday loans. Many parents use it as their last way to celebrate this holiday with their family. Borrowing money is not really bad, but the most important thing to consider when using payday loans is thinking about how to pay back. Consider about the interest, and borrow money at reasonable amount that you still can pay it back. So you can still celebrating holiday season without risking your financial condition.

Unraveling Breast Milk

ScienceDaily (Sep. 30, 2008) — Researchers are reporting that new insights into the composition of human breast milk may lead to new ways to prevent and treat stomach illnesses and other diseases in babies and adults.

A new article notes that human breast milk is a complex fluid composed of several key components, including lactose, a sugar that provides energy for the infant, and lipids, which are thought to provide healthy fats to infants. But scientists are just now beginning to understand the composition and function of many of the components of human breast milk.

Researchers have found, for example, that certain sugars in breast milk could be developed into treatments that help fight necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), a potentially deadly disease that affects about 10 percent of premature infants. Some types of sugars in breast milk appear to prevent bacterial infections, including those that cause severe diarrhea, the article notes.

A better understanding of the chemistry and function of breast milk can also lead to the design of more nutritious infant formulas and cow's milk products, the article suggests. "[Breast milk] is a remarkable fluid," remarked one researcher. "It's extremely embarrassing how little we still know about it."

Leg Movement Training For Preterm Infants

Good news from American Physical Therapy Association about leg movement training in preterm infants give positive changes in motor skills similar to that of full-term infants.
Randomized controlled trial reproted in the october issue of physical therapy journal reported that preterm infants who receive leg movement training display feet-reaching behaviors similar to that of full-term infants. This trial result is a good finding as early intervention strategy to encourage interaction with physical objects in preterm infants who have movements problems within the first months of postnatal life.
As we know that full-term infant can make contact with toys using their feed before reaching with their hands while certain populations of preterm infants are known to be delayed in hand reaching. The presence of feet reaching and positive training effect in this population would suggest a novel and easily implemented intervention strategy to encourage early object interaction in infants with special needs.
"This finding, coupled with a positive effect of training, provides clinicians with a new intervention strategy for encouraging object interaction within the first months of life in infants at risk for long-term motor impairments."

Great news for you parents who have preterm baby with special needs, you don't have to worry, this leg movement training will help your baby to have a good motor skills as good as normal full-term baby!
